"Piano Mastery, Fresh, Vigorous, Imaginative" - Broadway World Boston

Broadway World Boston raved of Charlie’s “piano mastery” with Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops on a program including Harry Connick Jr.

"Albright wasted no time demonstrating the talent that made him a onetime wunderkind, delivering a fresh, vigorous, and imaginative take on the Gershwin classic that was the stand-out opening-night selection. As his richly earned encore, Albright all but attacked the keyboard – while leaving both feet planted on the floor – for a rousing rendition of “Great Balls of Fire,” a 1957 hit for Jerry Lee Lewis."

"Hotshot jazz pianist" -Boston Globe

The Boston Globe raved about Charlie’s Boston Pops Opening Night performance of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, which also featured Harry Connick Jr., conducted by Keith Lockhart.

For “Rhapsody” itself, Charlie Albright attacked his piano with hungry speed, more like a hotshot jazz pianist than a classical player. He took ample advantage of the free time of his solo sections, teasing out some passages and charging heedlessly through others; his quick crumpling of the ending notes of one passage garnered a laugh from the audience. And Albright’s choice of encore — a careening “Great Balls of Fire” — showed that Jerry Lee Lewis wasn’t miles off from “Rhapsody in Blue.”

Review | "California Symphony Blows the Roof off the Joint"

The San Francisco Classical Voice raved of Charlie Albright’s performance with Conductor Donato Cabrera and the California Symphony in September, 2019, writing that “The piano soloist for the Beethoven concerto, clear fan favorite Charlie Albright, performed the work, especially the finale, with a precision that any performer would envy.

He also provided the two most astonishing fireworks in an evening of them: his jaw-droppingly virtuosic and complicated cadenza during the concerto followed by his almost equally impressive encore, which took the form of an on-the-spot, prelude length improvisation on four random notes elicited from audience suggestion (the lack of giggles when someone suggested “g minor” as a note punctuated the welcoming environment that much more). The match with Bernstein was perfect: educational, interactive warmness and lightheartedness amid daunting levels of skill.”
